Adapted from
docs/quickstart.mdin chitin-api. See Chitin API for the overview.
Gets a new workspace from signup to the first proxied request in minutes. You need: a running Chitin deployment, a provider API key (OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenAI-compatible), and curl or an OpenAI-compatible SDK.
curl -sS http://localhost:8080/api/v1/signup \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"name": "Acme AI", "email": "admin@acme.test"}'
Response includes tenant_id, api_key (sk-chitin-…, for model traffic), and session_token (for dashboard APIs).
The gateway only proxies after a provider credential is stored for the workspace:
curl -i http://localhost:8080/api/v1/tenant/provider-keys -X POST \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SESSION_TOKEN" \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"provider": "openai", "key": "<YOUR_PROVIDER_KEY>"}'
Same shape for "provider": "anthropic".
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
api_key="sk-chitin-...", # your Chitin API key
base_url="https://api.usechitin.com/v1",
)
Or with the Anthropic SDK — same base_url override. All optimization (cache, dedup, compression, routing) happens transparently. Your provider key stays in Chitin's encrypted vault; your app only needs the Chitin key.
